Let’s have a quick brief about dengue:

Dengue is a dangerous Disease, Its treatment and prevention has become very important as Dengue has already killed many. People must know about Dengue Mosquito and should be aware of Dengue. Let us know what Dengue actually is, what are the early symptoms and some effective home remedies.

Dengue Cause- The Dengue Mosquito

Dengue fever is transmitted by Aedes Mosquitoes.Only female mosquitoes bite humans as they need proteins to develop eggs. The Aedis mosquito can lay up to 100 eggs at a time and it can lay eggs three times in its life span. Life span of Aedis Mosquito is about two weeks. The Dengue mosquito is very dangerous and only a single bite is enough to infect a human with Dengue. The mosquito carrying Dengue Virus bites and the dengue virus enters the skin with mosquito’s Saliva and enters WBC (white blood cells). They reproduce at a faster rate and move throughout the body with blood.

Prevention starts at home:

Prevention is always better than cure, and the best way to prevent Dengue is to get rid of Mosquito carrying Dengue Virus- Aedes Mosquito. We must all join hands and Prevent Aedes Mosquito Breeding by these methods.

Toilet Bowls/ Cistern
Gully Trap
Roof gutters
Roadside Drains
Plant Axil
Air conditioner tray
Air Cooler Tanks
Canvas Sheets covered to save things from rain
Discarded Waste material like Tyres, broken things etc.

Apart from cleaning these places regularly, you must use, mosquito repellent Sprays, Coils, Nets to save yourself and your family from mosquitoes.

Dengue Signs and Symptoms

Early signs & symptoms of Dengue are very mild like any other fever, but they can slowly and gradually get severe and may become life threatening too.  People infected with Dengue usually show symptoms in about 4 to 7 days, Keep a check on these symptoms.

  • High fever, often high as 103- 105 degrees Fahrenheit
  • Flat Red Rashes
  • Loss of Appetite
  • Headache
  • Fatigue
  • Swollen Lymph Nodes
  • Low blood pressure
  • The bruises that form easily and on their own
  • Pain in Joints, muscles and Bones

If Dengue is not treated at the right time, the condition can worsen and Dengue becomes Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever. With all the symptoms of fever few more symptoms can be seen like

  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Nausea
  • Difficulty in Breathing
  • Severe Pain in Bones and Muscles
  • Severe Abdominal Pain
  • Severe Headache

Dengue Treatment and Home Remedies

You must be shocked to know that there is no specific treatment for Dengue. But symptomatic treatment is given to control Dengue and the symptoms associated. Try these temporary measures and Home remedies.

Papaya Leaf– Grind fresh papaya leaves, and get the juice out of them. The juice of Papaya leaves is very Bitter in taste but is very effective in increasing White blood cells and platelet count. Around 5 teaspoons twice a day can show best results.

Orange Juice- Orange juice can be given to the patients as it helps improve digestion and helps to replace fluid loss of the body or dehydration.

Basil Leaves- To improve immunity and to fight dengue fever, boil few basil leaves in water until it remains half. Strain the water, cool it down and drink it at least twice a day.

Black Grape Juice- Increases blood count, drink Black grape juice 2-3 times a day. You can have them whole, but the juice is much better and effective.

Coconut Water– Coconut Water is very good for a patient’s health, as it helps replace body fluid loss and is very nutritious and improve immunity.

Fenugreek- Fenugreek is a pain reliever, Make Herbal tea using Fenugreek seeds. One cup of tea in a day will help cut down fever and relieve you from joint and muscle pain.

Coriander- Another effective herb is coriander. Either you can prepare a decoction of coriander leaves or you can wash and cut coriander leave and use them in your food. They are healthy and tasty too, will reduce fever and help in digestion.

Do not eat Solid food, and try to get simple food which is easy to digest and is less oily and spicy.

Get lots of rest and drink plenty of fluids like juices, water and soups.

Do not smoke or drink alcohol.

Do not wait for symptoms to get worse, consult a Doctor and do not take any allopathic medicine without consulting a medical representative. Dengue is not life threatening, but delay in proper treatment can lead to worse conditions and even prove fatal.
